Matriarch Gala travelled north, from Spain to the Wadden Sea coast, with son Titan. Starved and poisoned by PCBs, she stranded and died on the beach at Cadzand

From the Hebrides, 60-year-old brothers John Coe and Aquarius still travel south to the Scilly Isles - but alone. Their pod's breeding females have vanished, lost to PCB contamination

Awaken Awareness - Wear the Voice
World Ocean Day and other international environmental Days are valuable moments of awareness..but Ocean recovery depends on something even more important: persistent action throughout the year, day after day, Drop by Drop
Our Planet Orca is pleased to contribute to that global persistent action through the
Blue Orca Initiatives,
a flagship strand of participation within Our Planet Orca, bringing together organisations, projects and community-led efforts working towards Ocean recovery.
Through the Blue Orca Initiatives, OPO recognises, connects and promotes an organisation's work so as to be seen and supported and to help that work reach further, build connections and attract wider public awareness and support.

"The Voice from within the Ocean"
The Ocean belongs to no one..
Responsibility for its future belongs to us all
The Initiatives bring together science, citizen action and responsible organisations to help restore Ocean health through practical, measurable projects ..supporting the aims of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 - Life Below Water - contributing to the UN Ocean Decade by encouraging practical participation in Ocean recovery
A prority Blue Orca Initiative is the tackling of how to remove one of the Ocean's most persistent pollutants: PCB contamination Endangering orca populations. As apex predators, orcas accumulate these legacy toxins at exceptionally high concentrations - and their rate of accumulation is one of the clearest indicators of the Ocean's health
The Initiative's objective is simple: to develop practical solutions that deliver measurable environmental improvements in reduction of PCB contamination and can be replicated in coastal regions around the world
Actions include:
Every Drop Counts โ Your Drop Counts โ Wear the Voice
"The Voice from within the Ocean tells us that recovery begins by working together"
Greater public and policy support is needed for ocean rewilding and habitat recovery as protection against further underwater destruction
A Blue Orca Initiative supports and promotes organisations nominated for making
ongoing contributions to Ocean recovery..
Are you already working for Ocean recovery?

The next section introduces Clean Ocean Partnership 101 (COP101) -
a consortium for Expeditions working alongside the Blue Orca Initiatives to enable socially responsible commercial organisations to partner and work together to deliver practical, measurable Ocean recovery
The Clean Ocean Partnership 101 (COP101) is working alongside the Blue Orca Initiatives and Expeditions to protect the marine habitat of orcas as sentinels of the health of the Ocean
COP101 supports Expeditions bringing together researchers, mariners, environmental organisations,
environment-supporting businesses and corporate partners to work together on their shared commitment to practical, measurable Ocean stewardship
As a collaborative project-development hub, COP101 connects identified needs with people, expertise, technology and resources, forming practical partnerships that develop and deliver solutions, with measurable outcomes contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 14
By combining scientific understanding, innovation and collaborative partnerships, COP101 aims to develop practical solutions that move beyond awareness and towards measurable environmental improvement
COP 101 is exploring and supporting as a Blue Orca Initiative the development of practical, nature-based approaches that aim to reduce through bioremediation the long-term impact of legacy marine pollutants, with focus on cleaning-up PCBs, as support for achieving healthier coastal ecosystems
